Monday, January 7, 2013 - An interesting range of scores and descriptors here. The first of 9 bottles bought on release, mostly at BevMo. Upon opening, huge meaty, gamey and deep tobacco notes soar from the bottle, filling the dining room with Bordeaux essence. There is a reason why I've always liked this wine. I must say it's in need of ten more years, which really isn't a shocker. It opened fairly full in the mouth, it closed up to a tart tannic wine within 45 minutes, then began to flesh out again as we finished the bottle. Red currants and chalky tannins are stand outs right now, there is plenty of earth and saddle leather. It doesn't have the full fruit of a greater vintage, but I think it's got a nice future for anyone with a bit more patience.
