Tuesday, February 5, 2013 - I always take great joy when I can begin a tasting note by saying that it is "hard not to like this one." This is the case with this bottle (which was purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion). Deep-to-opaque red/garnet in color, this iteration of Gruaud Larose shows an intense nose of black currants, pipe tobacco, spice and earth. The wine is medium-to-full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity, medium supple tannins and seamless alcohol (which is listed as 12.5%). The aromas lead to similar flavors, with a solid middle and medium-length, supple finish which adds a floral component. Now likely on plateau, this is a wine which should provide steady pleasure for another decade (or more). Drink now-12/22.
