Saturday, March 9, 2013 - Winemaker notes: Tasting from the first opened magnum, 1 of 24.
While there is some feedback the GSM is young, and bottle aging would make it even better, I am a fan of it fresher & brighter, and thus am in love with the magnum.
Having tasted from 375s (which I have completely abandoned now, am convinced wine hates 375s) 750ml., and 1.5,
all recently, the 1.5 is such a wonderful format, will have to expand this.
The nose reminds me of its earlier days, strawberry essence. Not as bright as the new 2011 100% release, and not over ripe, but like a fresh strawberry picked in the afternoon sun. Intermingled with notes of spice, and cedar.
On the palate, its vibrant with acid, a bit more mature than earlier tastings, but still fresh, juicy, red fruits, spice, and a lingering finish.
When will the next one be opened! :)
