The 2009 E. Guigal Crozes-Hermitage is medium purple in colour with a black currant and bretty nose of mint, black olives, thyme, dark chocolate and slight smokiness. On the palate, an initial entry of black pepper and alcohol heat that unfortunately sticks out a bit before progressing to dark chocolate with underlying dark cherries and smokiness on the mid palate. Towards the end palate, tannins take over with a heavy grippy finish. Acidity, nonetheless, still does it brings out the flavours on the palate rather well.

Over time with air, the nose and palate of brettanomyces definitely starts to broaden giving the wine a tad bit of its own character. A youthful Crozes-Hermitage to be drinking now or in a few years to come - wine has a decent structure.
