Tuesday, December 16, 2014 - A youthful-looking, semi-opaque, dark magenta in color, but lightening quite a bit at the edge. This needs a good hour of air time before its fruit fully emerges. Subtle, but complex aromas of crushed dark berries, sous bois and bramble on the nose. Full-bodied, rich and plush in texture. There's plenty of tangy blackberry and plum fruit character to this, along with a lively acidity. The polished finish shows good length and contains attractive notes of roasted game, crushed stone and spice. The velvety tannins are not quite fully integrated, suggesting this has quite a few years left in its prime drinking window. A very nice Northern Rhone - and at just $19, about as good a value as you are likely to find within that category.
