Friday, April 19, 2013 - Wow! Stirringly rich young Valpolicella, far beyond its earlier evocations. A friend suggested that this normally monstrous melange that takes over a decade to cool a manageably smooth delivery, could be drunk now. He was correct. While the wine has not developed yet its second level of complex flavors, even without decanting it is rich, incredibly made wine. One could mistake the huge, plum, chocolate and meaty dark, dark flavor with new world fruit forward ness like in some tempranillos or cabs, but not so. All of the aged fruit provides proof that this is Amarone on the cheap. Quintarelli started decades ago turning Valpolicella into a junior Amarone; this perfects the effort.
