Saturday, November 10, 2007 - Allowed to breathe in the bottle for 2 hours prior to decanting at restaurant. Deep ruby color. Nose offers a beautifully pure expression of black and red fruits, but did not find any cassis, leather or tobacco that some posters noted. In the mouth, the wine is still primary with pure blackberry and raspberry, finishing with a hint of fine black pepper. Has not yet developed typical Pauillac secondary characteristics. Simply does not have the elegance, depth or power of a first or second growth. Certainly a very good buy at $30, though it is difficult to find this wine for under $55 now. At a similar price point, much prefer the 98 Pichon Baron.
