2009 Cadence Coda

MagnumGourmet Does not like this wine:
Friday, December 14, 2012 - Popped and poured, then consumed over two hours. Struggled with this wine tonight. Typically Ben's wines are very good to exceptional. Tonight, this felt like 2nd class juice. Nose of blackberry and rainier cherry. Flavor profile was dominated by too much oak. The tannin structure was aggressive and had a very raw element to it. Finish was short but clean. Blind, I would have guessed this as an entry level ste. Michelle. Hoping this is an anomaly. Would not purchase again.

12/15/2012 8:24:00 AM - Cadence generally makes wines that need to be aged. I thought that since Coda is mostly Merlot it would be accessible earlier, but based on your review, I'll let my bottle sit for a few more years.

12/16/2012 4:34:00 PM - @botto, usually the coda is much mode approachable in its youth. Also given the growing conditions of 2009, I expected it to be more fruit forward. I tasted this wine when it was bottled, and was quite nice at that point. Hoping it was just not a representative bottle.

1/26/2013 7:10:00 PM - I found your notes right on. I popped a bottle and thought it was rough around the edges and the fruit was a bit off. Even after the second day there just was no finesse to this wine. I'll hold the other 3 bottles, but was really disappointed. I'm not for drinking wine early, but the showing was quite poor. It really did taste like second rate juice. Like bulk juice bought on the open market, and this blend looked as it should be spectacular, but awkward fruit, no real nuances and short finish. I hope more cellar time gets coda to come out and play, but if not this will be gift wine to non-wine geeks.
