Friday, February 17, 2012 - Crazy stuff. Started off with some fizz. Then it settled in, showing not its age so much, as its pedigree. Lots of life left in this, with aged cab characteristics. Drank well all night and into the next day it was still going strong.

According to the back label, this bottled in December 1983. The following note was written by DRB in 1/80, hence the speculative dates in the following, since I'm not sure if the dates noted in the following are from 1980 or 1983 when bottled. I believe DRB is Dave Bennion, Ridge's first winemaker and an original partner.

"Four years ago [1976? or 1979?] the Jimsomare Vineyard ripened too fully. It was fined and given three years of barrel age but remained out of balance. With the large yields last year [1979? or 1982?] the same vineyard provided the perfect corrective: lower alcohol, moderate tannin and excellent fruit. This non-vintage Cabernet Sauvignon should develop beautifully with four or five years in bottle and to open fully should be decanted just prior to serving."

Front label show: Grapes: Jimsomare Vineyard 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Alcohol 12.9% by volume

Bottle had no punt.
