Sunday, September 23, 2012 - Best Martha's I have had. Super fruit forward though and did not get a lot of the eucalyptus you typically find.

7/6/2013 12:14:00 PM - Greetings Slywka7: Enjoyed looking at the picture on your profile page. Reminds me of a time years ago. Really appreciate this phase in life-it goes by so very fast. Suddenly my daughter is 26:)

Regarding the Heitz Martha's 2007. Reading some reviews I get the feeling the wine is lighter in color with weight being an issue. One reviewer indeed indicated they were hoping this wne would flesh out. Using the color of the wine in your picture as a baseline I would be most grateful to get a comparison between that and the Martha 2007. Also if you could please expand on the structure of the wine it would be most appreciated. Do not worry about your comments sounding professional-I cannot do that in my reviews. Just looking for some notes to guide me regarding this wine.

    Sincerely,

    Dave

    7/6/2013 12:32:00 PM - Dave,

Have to admit that it's pretty hard to compare with the picture but I do remember the wine being a little lighter in color. The wine was very fruit forward and had more acidity than I remember other vintages having. I did not get a lot of tannin but I have to admit I don't know how long the wine was open for. I did not get the typical eucalyptus that I always get from these wines. It was pretty consistent from wines from the 2007 vintage. My advice, if your looking for something in the traditional Martha's style I would looks to other vintages. That being said, this wine is still outstanding just different from their norm.

7/6/2013 1:21:00 PM - Thanks for the quick reply. I opened a bottle of the legendary 1974 in 1983. Wow! Reminded me of Mouton Rothschild 1959-which I was lucky to taste around the same time period. The 1974 poured out of the bottle with a viscosity seemly nearing oil. I have three bottles of the Martha-please look at my cellar. I guess I could open a bottle in 2015-if it is light bodied-I could sell the other two. There sure was a lot of hype by Heitz talking about the richness of this wine sent to me snail mail. I find that disingenuous if the wne does not resemble their notes.

I cannot thank you enough for your reply. Hopefully down the road this wine will gan weight. As you look over my cellar you will see I have bottles of Winter 2007. Hopefully the Heitz does not emulate that wne. Poured the Winter-light-nothing to write home about.

7/7/2013 2:10:00 PM - Ah wow. Never had either of those wines and at this point they are a little out of reach price wise. If you were interested in selling the 2007 Martha's let me know. I never had the winter either but I see you have the 07 Staglin. Excellent wine and wish I had grabbed some bottles of that.

7/9/2013 4:19:00 PM - I will simply give you a bottle of the Winter. I got Martha 07 from Napa Cabs the second they got it. I got mailings from Heitz like crazy to buy it. Their price-if I remember was $200. I said forget it. Bought it around 175 at Napa Cabs. If I waited longer I would have saved even more. When fall arrives-remind me-I will send you the Winter. See if your bottle is as bad as the one I opened. In fact I will have one left after sending you one. We should plan on opening them the same night:)

11/28/2013 12:43:00 AM - Have a Happy Thanksgiving:) In 2014 will send you that Winter on me. If you can look at my wish list-that would be cool. Thinking of buying some good burgundy. Of course that will mean buying less bottles per month-but I think they should be wow bottles:) Dave

11/29/2013 11:37:00 AM - Greetings-sorry I am going to buy more wine:) Starting to get Burgundy and Pomerol in my cellar. All those bottles that have been sleeping on my cellar will be consumed on premises. Or friends homes:) Sorry about any misunderstanding that I was going to sell wine. When I referred to my wish last you can look at-those are the wins I am considering purchase for spring delivery. Have a good one-Dave

9/2/2014 3:48:00 PM - Hi Slywka7-This is Dave. I still have not forgotten sending you a bottle of Winter Cabernet. As my cellar is a little cold I am planning on the fall of 2015 sending you a bottle. I am moving my cellar to a different portion of the basement that I think will work perfect. ---Dave

9/3/2014 6:20:00 PM - I used to have a 1,000 bottle cellar. Thank goodness I am under 200 for moving. However as I wait for my wines to mature I would not be surprised to see me hit the 350 to 500 level again. Once I hit a 1,000 years ago I never bought any wine. Got down to 50 bottles and needed to stock up again. Obviously started that process in 2008 about five years too late-Dave

9/3/2014 8:31:00 PM - P.S. I do not know what I was thinking-we can open the bottles at some point in 2015-but I will send you the bottle this fall. I think I still have your address in an e-mail. Will notify you before I send it in case no one is around to receive it. Let it rest in your cellar for a year and we can both give it a try.---Dave

10/25/2014 10:39:00 AM - Greetings-I have not forgotten I am sending you a Winter 2007. I tried a Buccella 2007 and frankly it was terrible-the group thought(hoped it was too young) upon tasting. This may be due to the fact my cellar gets cold in the winter. I am correcting that problem by moving my cellar to a different part of the house. Since the 2007 was too young I am thinking of us both trying the Winter in 2015-giving it a year more of aging. I could send you the bottle this November or next spring. Whichever you prefer. Hopefully we both have a dramatically different experience from the wimpy light colored red I first tried. Dave

11/11/2014 10:36:00 AM - Sorry I didn't see I missed your comment. Haven't had the Buccella Cab but have had the Merlot. A very bold, ripe expression of Merlot so it may not be for everyone. Whenever you feel like sending over the bottle and uncorking I'm game!

11/11/2014 2:47:00 PM - Just received a wine shipment before the cold hit. (Seven different shipments:) From that took off 1/3 of a three pack styrofoam shipping container to ship your wine. Now I need to find a box that does not look like a wine carton to put it in. Zip me your address again to:
    davebythelake@gmail.com

We are supposedly in a two week freeze. Have no idea about your area.

11/11/2015 7:36:00 PM - I have a wine club meeting on the 21st. Could open it there and get the members feedback too if you'd like. Typically they do less expensive wines but I could throw this in as well. We do it blind. Let me know if that works.

How are things going. This is Dave Kuck. I have a question. How long should I wait for this wine to be fully developed? Dave
