Friday, March 8, 2013 - This opaque garnet/amber wine was tasted in double-blind fashion, with the bottle being generously provided to our tasting group by K.J. The bouquet is delighfully complex, with coffee, pipe tobacco, savory and loam aromas framing a core of plum fruit. While this wine was undoubtedly a full-bodied bruiser in its earlier years, it is now a gentle giant, with melted tannins, medium acidity and seamless alcohol (listed as 13.1%). The flavors mirror the nose and the smooth finish is medium-to-long. This 25-year-old wine shows how the Petite Sirah grape is capable of producing a special, age-worthy product. Drink now-12/16.
