Thursday, May 17, 2012 - This is the second of two bottles, with the first one back in March. I opened this one yesterday, it comes with screw top so I simply put the cap on last night and back into the cellar. The aromatics on this wine are really true to the SLH teroir, with smoke and pepper. The color is very dark, stains the side of the glass. It's very easy to get fired up over CA syrah with these aromatics and color, just great. The palate is more medium weight with this bottle, as I thought I recalled the first bottle being bigger but this is really about medium weight, maybe medium plus but not by much. Lots of juicy dark fruit with black licorice, tar and lingering citrus. The chocolate and vanilla bean notes that emerge on the wine upon first being opened faded off since last night, too. This is really quite good, leaner with nice acid, juicy dark fruit and excellent color. A real nice showing for this young vineyard and as I said in my last note, which I'll affirm again, I'll add this to my annual Novy order of the SLH syrahs. Terrific.
