Sunday, March 23, 2014 - I've been drinking a lot of "edgy" Loire wines lately, both white and red, and I have to admit it's nice to come back to something that just flat out delivers on expectations. On a lot of these other bottles, there's no way to know what to expect, because the labels are completely inscrutable. Grolleau anyone? The last one was nicknamed Adonis, a presumed spoonerism of Pineau d'Aunis, which could just as easily been called Pain in My Anus.

Here there's no need for second guessing. Gold color, rich heady nose of petrol and green gage plums, full-bodied, almost lush, viscous texture with petrol, ripe orchard fruits, chalk in the mid-palate, and a satisfyingly acid-defined finish that prevents any hint of flab. In short, a predictably delicious Vouvray. Not every bottle of wine needs to be a game of Survivor.
