Wednesday, January 5, 2011 - 13.0% alcohol. Reddish-brown color. Initially reticent nose that took about ten minutes to open up. When it did, it revealed a gorgeous, pure, singing old Pinot. Nose of dried red cherry, rose petals, mushrooms, and layers of earth. In the mouth, initially somewhat reticent, as on the nose, with a strong emphasis on earth and mushroom notes. Within twenty minutes, it opened up, but just for about half an hour. But what a half an hour: lovely red cherry just sang beautifully, supported by lovely layers of mushroom, flowers, and rich earth notes. Texturally very nice, with a caressing structure and terrific balance. A seamless wine but one of pure finesse. Started to devolve with some soy notes after having been open for about an hour. Perhaps past its peak, but for a short time it was really beautiful. A-/A
