Saturday, January 30, 2016 - Definitely shows why this producer is a "go to" claret producer in California. This was a terrific wine despite the reputation of 1998 as a fairly poor year. Out of the bottle an amazingly brickish, very slight brown noble color. Great nose of truffle and cedar, with very restrained use of oak. Dominus has a reputation as being very bordeaux-like (owing to its French owner) and this bottle was no exception, but I did sense that it was fading a touch. This did not detract from the wine at all, but I think the window to drink this will likely close in 5 to 7 years or so. We decanted and felt it had faded perceptibly after the two hour mark. Nonetheless, hard to see how someone doesn't like this bottle - a great effort.
