89 Points

Thursday, February 28, 2013 - Light to medium bodied, with medium tannins. Initially dusty Old-World Bordeaux nose, it started showing notes of iron after 10 minutes, coffee liquor after 20 minutes, cassis (a characteristic of some Washington State Cabs) after 30, and chives and fresh manure after an hour. On the palate it transitioned through (dominant) flavors of vanilla extract and coffee liquor (especially on the backpalate), and then the flavor profile started evening out after about 45 minutes, bringing these contrasting flavors into balance with an addition of dried herbs (marjoram?). Medium finish of coffee liquor and some vanilla and toasty oak. An awesome "mystery wine" buy from Garagiste (at $10 below retail)! 89+
