Monday, June 2, 2014 - I am not a fan of posting tasting notes online, nor have I ever done so before. But I felt compelled to write about my experience with this wine; the 1995 vintage of the Riesling Vinothek from Nikolaihof.

I just finished consuming this wine over the course of the past 5 days, and I must say, as a lover of fine Riesling, this surpassed any/all expectations that I had for this golden elixir! The Vinothek continued to evolve over the course of each day. Given its time in cask (well over a decade), it makes sense that it would evolve with oxidation. I wish I had saved more wine to taste this evening, but it was too irresistible not to finish!

First and foremost, this wine needs LOTS OF AIR. To evaluate this wine without proper decanting/aeration is unjust. If you would like to experience the magic that is in this bottle, then I recommend you open this gem at least 12 hours before tasting.

I wish all Riesling and fine wine lovers across the world have the pleasure of experiencing this wine sometime in their lifetime. Truly a magnificent wine. I look forward to revisiting my last few bottles over the next several years. It should last for at least half a century.
