Sunday, September 22, 2013 - Roses and dark ripe fruit that is very fresh and pure. There is a creaminess to the black cherry liquor but this wine bounces on the edge of over ripeness and the alcohol creeps up from time to time which can throw the wine off balance. After a few hours, tar and tobacco become more prominent. Overall maybe just a bit too ripe, but still very fine and drinkable in its youth. The tannins are present but not overpowering and, in this vintage, I prefer the elegance of this blended barolo more than the power of the Brunate cru bottling - though both are beautifully traditional and great values at their respective price points.
