Monday, February 2, 2015 - Continues to evolve. First thing I notice is there is a lot tannin resolution, much more giving and a much finer texture, but also toning down the body to about medium up front and med+ on the finish. The structure is much softer, only the acidity grabs, so I would guess this is a bit on the short side. On the palate there is spicy dark red plum, some good acidity up front, and lots of perfumed fresh berries which are really the best part. The whole package is coated in a subtle smokiness, and some iron, but it never overpowers the fruit. This is on the tail end of primary. Normally I would think there is some secondary here to wait on, and I could be wrong, but I think the tannins and structure have softened enough that this should be consumed within 2 years. It's interesting to see my previous notes and see how the perfume and freshness has followed this wine all along, while other components have dropped.
