Wednesday, October 16, 2013 - Whoops! Saw that the previous note written for this wine back on 6/13 was for the central coast (purchased fruit) version; it was supposed to be for the estate version (as this).
Color: medium cloudy yellow showing a lot of viscosity with numerous long, shapely legs. Intense bouquet of grapefruit, honeysuckle, peaches, a touch of lime zest and freshly cut garden flowers. Big, big mouthful of wine that packs both a flavourful and alcoholic punch at 14.7%. Better, I think, on a cool New England evening than the earlier hot, humid one -- though the aromatics were more (heh heh) spirited then. Once again, grapefruit and honey noted as well as a little back-end spiciness that was very enticing. FULL bodied, viscous, with good acidity and wonderful structure, this is not for faint-of-heart tasters. I do think this is one of the best Viogniers to come out of California but I wonder if John could dial the alcohol back a bit and still keep that intensity? This is a 2011 so the season was supposed to be less generous, nature-wise, than usual; hopeful that the profile would be less Marilyn Monroe and more Grace Kelly.
