Wednesday, October 8, 2014 - So this is the first time I've tasted this wine where it has shown something more than just primary flavors. There is a thickness and power here along with great breed and elegance and it far surpasses the '97 and '98 tasted alongside. We decanted it for over 4 hours and it made a difference. The nose is fantastic with smells of game, smoke, black fruits, pepper and violets. On the palate the texture is like velvet silk with steely tannins and acids lurking underneath. Thick black fruit flavors give way to a stunning finish with hints of smoked meats and dark spices just emerging including this fabulous extra floral dimension that leaves a gorgeous violet impression on the palate. Big, pure, perfectly balanced and in need of long-term cellaring, i now firmly believe this will be one of the greatest vintages of La Mouline ever made and it will last 50+ years. 96+
