Friday, June 5, 2015 - Deep ruby core, going almost all the way to the rim. Nose has black cherry, raisin, licorice, spice, and (ugh) dark chocolate. Palate followed the nose, but with a meaty aspect to it as well. Ripe and soft tannins. Medium acidity. Finish not particularly long, and bitter (like dark chocolate.) Mildly complex, but as normal, not my cup of tea. My rating due to my perceived "disjointed" aspect of the flavors not working well together tied with the bitter finish. Interesting to see how others might view it. Probably good QPR for those who like this style, but for me, can't wait to get these southern Rhone blends out of my cellar.

    6/6/2015 2:38:00 PM - Me too, except for some specific CdP, that use a high quantity of Mouvedre. I have lost any love for Grenache. It may return but I just am not fond of the harsh smells and tastes of herbs de Provence. I cook with them all the time, but I don't want medicinal wine with all sorts of flavors that don't always work together. I am buying much more Northern Rhones now, Bordeaux, Burgs (though almost done with those as they need time) and some Spanish reds, and Italy. The rest is white or or sparkling, if not a dessert. I have two of these bottles, and somehow they have Mouvedre but not the mouvedre taste. Like some WA wines from warm vintages they are thin and hot and don't thrill me at all. I am done with Bila-Haut, even if others love it. They have shut down and I am not cellaring $15 wine just in case.
