Sunday, March 22, 2015 - Decanted 90 mins. Dark ruby. Medium round and velvety, Luigi D'Alessandro's 2010 Borgo Syrah Cortona displays pure, concentrated aromas of berries, plums, mint, and violets. Blindfolded, I might mistake the bouquet for a Brunello. In the mouth however, I could just as easily mistake it for a northern Rhone, perhaps a Crozes Hermitage. Not a powerhouse, but elegant and balanced, with medium acidity and a long, clean, peppery finish. The tannins have smoothed noticeably from only a year ago. QPR. Drink or hold. (13.5% abv)
