Friday, April 15, 2011 - Impromptu tasting of C.H. Berres' Urziger Wurzgarten Rieslings (Beautiful Wines, The Plaza): I really liked this. The nose wad not the strongest point on the wine unfortunately. It would probably be best described as "challenging". Full of diesel, some pungent jackfruit notes, some orange tangerine, but beyond that, it was just hard to get past the fumey diesel scents. It was on the palate that the wine really shone. Rich, sweet, a bit less taut compared to the 1994, but there was a whole lot more depth, with delicious stone fruit flavours wed to juicy acid and steely mineral and, finally, a lovely mouthfull of spice at the long finish. A really nice wine, still in a bit of an awkward adolescent stage, but it should be drinking very well with a few more years under its belt.
