The nose is textbook bordeaux, with mellow, smoky aromas of currants, herbs, cigar, graphite. It’s certainly middle-aged, and very seductive with its bouquet. The palate presents the aromas as flavours, caressed in polished leather, framed in fine powdery tannins, and gleaming like a polished gem. It’s a ‘medium’ wine in all respects – weight, tannins, acid, intensity – all respects save a long, beguiling and radiant finish, the product of a structure which attends to every part of the palate. A classical beauty in all respects. It will doubtless hold longer, but there’s no need to hesitate now, this is wonderful claret.
