Monday, January 6, 2014 - Medium purple in color, this wine revealed primary notes of damp earth and mud on the nose with subtle hints of blackberry jam. The mouth feel was moderately heavy but brought little fruit. The finish was short and considerably harsh, with a soapy, astringent element to it that was very offputting.
Even at $10US, this was a wine I'd never purchase again. I've enjoyed a great deal of the different Yalumba offerings over the years and the Y Series has always represented great value to me. The higher level, Hand Picked Yalumba/Shiraz offering in older vintages was one I gladly served BTG in 2006/2007 at the wine bar I founded in 2005. This offering was a poor concoction of nothing Shiraz like and painful to drink.
