Monday, April 1, 2013 - This bottle was gifted to me, thank you Sean! Opened last night, starts out really fluffy and without much finish. Dark color, yes and lots of mid-palate fruit but lacked a core and a finish. Put the bottle back away and re-trying tonight, showing better. It does retain the plush and pillowy-like/soft texture, but it has put on and added some acid, some of the SLH citrus you'd expect to find in an SLH syrah. Also some ink and some saddle leather, both adding some nuance to the core. It also lengthened in the finish, too. To me, the complexity is moderate, this should be an early drinker, to catch it now while the fruit and acid register are in play together, the texture and dark color being the solid drivers. I would also reinforce that if you open one, air it out really well before you judge it, as it's take a day and slow ox time to let the wine fairly unwrap.
