2004 Nino Negri Sfursat 5 Stelle

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Saturday, March 28, 2015 - Opened about an hour before dinner and poured a liberal amount into the glass as a decant. Initial nose had a distinctly earthy old world charm combined with the classic Nebbiolo aromas of tar, black tea and violets. With some time in the glass, it was time to sip and it did not disappoint. additional aromas emerged; black cherry compote mixed with coffee, licorice, tobacco and even a little chocolate. These were also evident on the palate. Where it differentiated itself from a Barolo, even from a modern producer, was its appearance and texture. Much darker and more viscous than a Barolo, apparently a function of the three months of the drying of the grapes and a long maceration time. Ample acidity, a full body and a long finish compliment its aromas and flavors to offer a most enjoyable drinking experience.
