Saturday, December 13, 2014 - Saturday Walk Around Tasting at The Gourmet Shop, Columbia, SC 12/13/2014 (The Gourmet Shop, Columbia, SC): Once again you can count on this producer to get it right. Most of the Napa Valley producers make a Sauvignon Blanc, mostly to round out the experience in the tasting room. They are often over priced and under performing, as Napa Valley is far from an ideal place to grow Sauvignon Blanc. This one is really pretty good, good enough to compete in nationwide distribution, and about middle of the road price wise. It is rich and creamy from lots of lees contact, and possibly some partial oak aging. There is plenty of ripe citrus, apple, peach and pear fruit and classy balancing acidity. A small percentage of Semillon gives a nice taste on the roof of the mouth.
