Saturday, August 20, 2011 - Fill between 2 and 4 cm below capsule. Color was a dark rust red-brown. Removed cork 3 hours prior to serving and decanted 30 minutes prior. Initial bottle stink dissipated in the time the cork was removed. Initial aromas of the wine were of dried cherries, autumnal leaves, licorice, some baking spice, sous bois, and some mushroom elements. The palate was fully mature with slight tobacco, dried cherry, licorice, and a hint of tar. Some hard tannins emerge on the medium finish. They hold this wine together, but will likely never allow it to achieve better balance. Best days past, but an interesting wine if drinking for the novelty of vintage. One to serve by itself to avoid it being outshone by other things at the table. Drink.
