Friday, July 25, 2008 - Two Wows and a Little Woe at Eleven Madison Park (New York): Wonderful deep core of red with lighter edges. Oh my, the nose on this one is magnificently seductive. Words could not possibly capture everything that is going on here, but violets, crushed oregano, blueberry, spice, toffee, and just a touch of uplifting VA give a glimpse of the smorgasbord of aromas. Suffice it to say that these sinuous, intoxicating aromatics alone would have made it worthwhile to age this wine. On the palate, again gorgeously silky and poised, with explosive fanning out of flavors from a deceptively light to medium weight frame. In addition to the still sweet plum fruit, a driving finish of tar and bitter chocolate. Mature? Yes, but only in its young adulthood. Fabulous wine that has me in mourning about my decision years ago to turn away from Nebbiolo. One of the most inspirational reds I've had in quite some time.
