Saturday, March 22, 2014 - The wine looks dark blue/red but not inky. There was light sediment in the bottle. Bouquet of blackberry, red currant, clove and salty smoke. It tastes like black pepper, blackberry and black currant (cassis), with sharp spiciness that adds tightness and complexity. Alcohols are too pronounced, but this wine blew away the other California Syrahs we had that night, which were flabby, one-dimensional and too fruity by comparison. This wine was intense and interesting, even if not perfectly balanced. The body is medium/full. The finish is medium in length and with moderate acidity. Paired well with rack of lamb.
