91 Points

Tuesday, February 2, 2016 - Floral (intense geranium) and spices on the nose. Served at 47F, warming to 52F and the wine seemed to show best roughly in the middle of that range. Too cold and the fruit is closed down, but too warm and the sweeter notes become more dominant. Full and rich in body with a good amount of sweeteness, but better overall balance than the Altenbourg. Lots of apple, fig and orange upfront with good spice notes on the finish. A honeyed streak throughout, but much more in the background than the Altenbourg. Overall, this is a rich style of Gewürztraminer, not as acidity, spice and mineral driven as I would've preferred. That being said, there's a good amount of potential here, given some patience as this wine should develop well.
