Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - Tasted in a double blind tasting against two other old chardonnays, namely a Westfield 1996 and a Rosabrook 1998. It gave away very little on the nose, slight mocha overtones but no suggestion of fruit. Colour was a lovely bright clear rich gold. The palate was soft with distinct citrus flavours of lime and lemon and delivered more than had been promised by the bouquet. Many did not pick it as a chardonnay with aged semillon being a common choice. The wine was still drinking well but definitely past its best. Members were really surprised when the vintage was revealed at its true age. It was a pity not to have drunk this wine much earlier as it was a delicious but fading lady.
