11/9/2015 11:31:00 PM - what a really surprising price. are they always selling it with this price tag in Finland?

just grabbed 3 cases last weekend on Villa Maria's annual cellar door sale, only NZ$9 (5.5 euros) / bottle. the higher tier, Cellar Selection, was sold at NZ$12.5 (7.6 euros), they both offer very nice QPR, in NZ local market of course.

11/10/2015 7:14:00 AM - In Finland only state own monopole can sell wine. So the prices are what they are... Some wines are considerably reasonable priced though, but usually low end wines from far-away countries tend to be extremely expensive compared to quality (even then they are most selling wines in Finland, but that is an another story about Finnish wine culture... :D).

11/15/2015 8:28:00 PM - yes, you are right, NZ wine is suffering from long-distance transporting to Euro and US market, especially cross the equator, which adds cost.

however, I'm wondering you might put wrong vintage here. Villa Maria Private Bin Merlot, normally harvest in March/April, and matured in barrel for 9~12 months. vintage 2013 couldn't be released before Xmas. I assume you tasted vintage 2012 here, which is notorious for Hawke's Bay.
