90 Points

Friday, January 22, 2016 - Dark violet color. This is really smoky and deep on the nose, with blackberries and plums mixed with a host of awesome tobacco, sweet red pepper, black olive, along with some gravel and leather elements. I love the tartness in this wine, which really makes it pop, but the tannins are still quite grippy and firm, and it takes time to smooth out. The blackberry and blueberry fruit is dark but also crunchy, and mixed together with complex flavors of black olive, smoke, earth, black pepper. Stays silky with a nice tartness. But it has the tannic structure to age for a while longer. It threw a ton of sediment, so definitely one for the decanter. Half Petit Verdot and half Cabernet Franc – a uniquely tasty wine, and I like it for the way it seems to exemplify perfectly these two grapes.
