Monday, July 20, 2015 - Over a year since my last bottle, I was pleased to see how well this bottle here drank for us. It started off tart, weird and I wasn't sure what was going to show but as it got to room temp and breathed out, within about 60 mins, this was drinking excellent. Has a dark, crimson color and the richer tones of the vintage, yet enough balancing acidity here, too. I presume some whole cluster here as the wine shows the lavender and cracked spices of stems, along with a whiff of blood, pepper. Dark fruit but not it's not the dark, sweet fruit bowl but instead, black and blue tones that really provide a pleasure, depth and oomph, along with some iron and black olive. Beautiful example of new world CA syrah with qualities of the old world woven in. PS--I didn't sense any wood or booze tones here, if you are interested in that part of the experience.
