Saturday, October 20, 2007 - Tasted together with other 2003 classed growths at the Wine for Asia Fair. This was my favourite of the lot, just pipping the Pontet Canet because of that little extra elegance. It certainly outperformed the other two, more famous Leovilles. Like many others of its vintage, it was unusually fruit forward. The wine is a joy to drink, it has a beautiful complexity and great poise, with perfumy notes on the nose and a georgeous dark cherry palate. Sumptous without being over the top, great purity of expression, with smooth, velvety tannins that will serve it well for years to come. This is a wine that speaks volumes without having to shout. I was bowled over.
