Wednesday, January 25, 2006 - 14.8% alc...I have had my experiences with Hobbs in the past, and I am starting to come to the conclusion that this isn't for me anymore. Never Pinot enough for me at any stage, and fully understanding that this is "only" his RR bottling...stinky and shroomy on the nose, really evident oak and seriously spicy at the same time, though no Pinot stink, no Pinot essence...the palate starts of fairly clunky, barely resembling any red fruits, seems more murky and undefined...the next day some of the fruit begins to show through, a touch of heat, lovely texture in a silky sort of way, little in the way of acid or tannin. I am firmly of the opinion that I have drastically changed with my palate, or all of Hobbs wines seem really heavy handed. I expect bright fruit and dancing acidity from RR. My bad. ** out of *****.
