Friday, March 6, 2015 - The 2012 Justin Reserve Malbec is 100% Malbec from Paso Robles that spent 17 months in 100% French Oak barrels (54% new). 14% alcohol. The truly remarkable aspect of this excellent wine is its fantastic bouquet. The nose presents profound fragrances of apricot, honey and baking spices. The bouquet was so amazing we almost didn't want to finish it so we could keep some in our glass and take in the pleasing aromas all night. However, the taste profile was equally enticing, with soft dark blue and purple fruit on the attack, with subtle plum and vanilla on the mid-palate. The finish was relatively short to medium length, implying that this wine should probably be consumed sooner rather than having much staying power, but it is an incredibly distinctive and very enjoyable wine. Went spectacularly with Mediterranean spiced dishes such as our chicken Shish Yawuk, chicken Kafta, or beef Shawarma. I wish we had bought more than 3 bottles from the winery.
