Does not like this wine:

82 Points

Friday, May 1, 2015 - The 2013 Rosemount Estate Shiraz is currently rated as 86 points by the CellarTracker community. Wine Spectator rates the 2012 vintage 87 points (no rating available for the 2013). I have to go against the grain here. I did not enjoy this wine. It wasn't bad, but I would have to dig deep for any redeeming qualities. I did not care to finish the bottle on the first night and, even more rare, I didn't bother to touch it on day two. Surprisingly, this inexpensive grocery store purchase did retain much of its character on day three and I was content with the final pours. I am not sure if the bottle actually improved on day three, or if I simply had better insight on what to expect. Overall, the dark berry notes and spice I hoped for did not seem to integrate well here. This wine has a medium body, medium tannins, medium acidity, and a tad bit of heat that quickly disappears. The wine comes off as underwhelming and off-character in its taste profile. This is especially poignant given that Rosemount hails from Australia where so many great options for a shiraz are at hand. I recommend dropping a bit more coin for one of Mollydooker's lines. It is an unfair comparison to this Rosemount, but Mollydooker's Carnival of Love is worth the price of entry. With that said, I have enjoyed several of Rosemount's red blends in the past, as well as their white blends. Although I hate being robbed of the experience of popping the cork (screw tops are characteristic of many, but not all Australian wines), I try not to let that bias my opinion about the juice inside of the bottle. I rate the 2013 Rosemount Estate Shiraz as 82 points.
