Monday, November 17, 2014 - This is a crazy, two-headed Chardonnay that is going through an identity crisis! That's not always a bad thing!!! On the one hand is a very full malolactic chard with an excellent, silky mouthfeel. On the other hand is spicy, old world, acidic and mineral-dominated chard. This wine is the perfect balance, and I dare say one of the best Chards I've had in recent memory. This outpaces $70 chardonnays at about half the cost. Served chilled around 60 degrees, this wine has peach, apricot, honeydew, a hint of mango, and is a full bodied, soft chardonnay that has a hint of spice on the very full bodied, long oaked up finish. If you let this one sit in the back of your palate, or when warmed up, the wine takes on a more old world characteristic. It still has a lot of character and depth up front, but at room temp this wine seems to have a lot of minerality that percolates on through....crushed rock in the middle with more of a citrus lemon zest and even a hint of sour apple on the finish with some white pepper spice that stings the palate. Probably one of the best Chards I've had in recent memory. I think this one has the depth that it can hold at least 5-7 years, but this one is such a delight to drink that why would you wanna do that??
