Sunday, February 8, 2009 - 2003 CdP tasting at Rothmann's Steakhouse, New York. To me it seems like the 2003 Pegau is starting to close down. It's a masculine wine for sure and, aside from the Santa Duc, the most rustic of the wines we tasted. I've always found flavors of cassis, lavender, thyme and garrigue in this wine and it was the same last night. A step up in concentration and density compared to the other CdPs. Good structure, not flabby or heady and with moderate tannins. I own this wine and will let it sleep for 5 years at least. Liked by many at the table. I noticed that some liked it even more when the foil was removed from the bottle. Label drinker? Who, me? No, not at all. Good wine, but not a 98,99 or 100 point wine or whatever score RP gives it (and hence everybody else that taste it).
