1999 Honig Cabernet Sauvignon

Community Tasting Note

87 Points

Friday, June 22, 2012 - This bottle, purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, was decanted and serially tasted over a 2-3 hour period. It is still quite deep ruby/red, and the nose shows moderately intense aromas of cassis, Asian spices and cedar. Full-bodied on the palate, with low acidity, medium residual angular tannins and well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.2%). The flavors are similar to the nose and the middle palate is solid. The medium-length finish is a bit astringent. While certainly pleasant, this wine has not developed into anything special despite more than a decade of cellaring. The nose and flavors are not particularly complex and the tannins are still a bit rough. I doubt that it will get any better, but the wine (assuming properly cellared) should remain quite drinkable for several more years. Drink now-12/17.
