Tuesday, July 7, 2015 - Beyond inky- Deep opaque burgundy bordering on black through the core- that and the medium-plus/high staining in the legs shows the high extraction and maceration techniques used. High viscosity and bright/day-bright reflections.
2.5 hours in the decanter give way to intense aromas and characteristics of all varietals used (35% Tempranillo, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre, 2% Grenache). Complex and robust! Meaty with scents of char grilled steak, smashed blueberries, sweet oak, vanilla creme anglaise, a mix of charcoal and shisha smoke, chili and cinnamon infused chocolate, scorched earth, espresso, rosemary, blood orange, dark cherries and white pepper.
On the palate this wine is concentrated, massive and engaging! High density across the palate, yet balanced. Medium+ acid, Medium/Medium-plus tannins and high alcohol. Rich, dense flavors of char grilled meats, rosemary, espresso, jammy over-ripe blueberries, chili pepper jelly, chocolate, blood orange bitters, cherry, whiskey oak, cigar smoke and traces of white pepper, cinnamon, toasted nuts and hot earth. The finish is intense lingering for one to reconsider all flavors.
