Tuesday, March 8, 2011 - I cannot wrap my mind around this bottle of wine. At first I thought it was a pure modern-day spoof-bomb. What with all of the oak, and the near over-ripeness and alcohol... I said near. The fruit is quite ripe, but it holds the line between over-ripeness. It is fluid and loaded with spices, spice cake, nut bread. It also has a lovely florality and nice mineral. There is a ton of oak, but maybe not too much toast? If the fruit, mineral, floral components can trounce the wood then the wine will be good/great. It is certainly much better than say Cos, or Pape Clement, et. al., utter oak nightmares. I cannot recommend this wine today, but if it helps, I kept all of my remaining bottles. I sold Cos d'Estournel, Angelus, Pavie, Pavie Maquin, Pape Clement, from the same vintage.
