Sunday, June 21, 2015 - From mature Tempranillo vines (25 years old) in La Consulta, 30% aged for 8 to 10 months in American oak, 14% ABV. I do not find this very easily recognisable as a Tempranillo. There is ripe red berry fruit and a hint of rosehip, spicy minerality and smoky oak; seems highly strung with ripe but grippy tannins, forward but also quite structured in its way. Notes of liquorice and tar on the finish. Unlike the 2013 Altocedro Malbec tasted recently, this feels ill at ease with itself and a bit anonymous. Perhaps it needs more time? I am not yet convinced.
