Saturday, May 12, 2012 - Our first Grange ever. Serving with Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb and Mushroom-ala-Sauvignon Blanc. First of 4 bottles acquired in the late 80's. Choose 82, over 81 and 83 after researching. Beautiful royal garnet. Fiery red as the light goes through it. Slightest amount of bricking. Nose opens with stewed red berries, leather, earth, tar, coffee, spice, herbs and the familiar cassis scent found in mature Bordeaux. Nose is almost like a cross between a great mature Bordeaux and a mature Amarone. No way this tastes 30 years old. Comes into the mouth bursting with exotic spicy and smokey cooked fruit flavors. Lots of spicy dark fruit, cassis, cedar in the mid palette. Wonderful balance. Spicy and ever so slightly astringent finish cleanses the palette with coffee beans and cinnamon spice, leaving you wanting more. Lived up to the reputation. Would sing Waltzing Matilda for more. World class wine.
