2005 Château Lanessan

Community Tasting Note

89 Points

Friday, June 26, 2009 - Decanted for about 12 hours and then put back in the bottle for another 8 or so. At the initial pop, this wine was simply jumping out of the bottle with fresh, perfectly ripe fruits, structure, zippy acidity and layers of flavors. I was really blown away at how good this was right out of the bottle. After the lengthy decant, everything settled into a very soft, yet structured wine with flavors of lead, red and black berries, black currant, a bit of tobacco and damp earth. This is the third vintage of Lanessan that I have had recently and they have really blown me away with their quality for price, and this is without a doubt the best of the three. Probably one of the best QPR producers I have had out of Bordeaux. Pop now for your mid-week bordeaux fix, or, considering how well the 96 has held up (and I believe this will hold up better), drink between now and 2020
