Thursday, November 12, 2015 - From Lyle: The fruit is raspberry-like with some red currants as well as focus and precision you just won't find in many wines. It is packed with terrific crunchy and ripe tannin and is just crazy pure and has vivid fruit that is similar to the SS from Lapierre.

This is from a 1.5 ha parcel with the vines being 60 years old. It is vinified with natural yeasts and has no SO2 added. Normally Julien bottles his Regnie cuvée with 10 mg/l S02 but in 2014 he also made 500 bottles of a "sans soufre" cuvée. The big question is how much of a difference does the 10mg make? A lot. It's is very noticeable. The fruit is cleaner and there are no hard edges or the sometimes sharpness you get from the S02.

Regnie is the most recently created Beaujolais Cru when it was given Cru status in 1988. Of the "lighter" crus, it is the most full-bodied but it is no Morgon or Cote de Brouilly.
